Spain is situated in south western Europe. It occupies the Iberian Peninsula and is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea.

It also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. Its total surface area is 504,788 sq. kms.

The Balearic Islands are located in the Mediterranean Sea and are famous throughout the world. Their climate, scenery and beaches are exceptional, and their inhabitants have a tradition for being particularly hospitable. The capital of the islands - Palma de Mallorca - is 132 miles from Barcelona, 287 from Marseille, 172 from Algiers and 140 from Valencia.

Situated on the 40th parallel (on the Castilian Meseta), Madrid occupies the geographical center of the Iberian Peninsula. The city stands at a height of 2,200 feet above sea level, its buildings rooted in the sandy soil of some low hills. It is sufficient to say that the reproductions of its luminous skies gave world fame to the best painter of all times: Velézquez. The beautiful skies of Madrid have since been described as "Velasqueos".

Lanzarote, the nothernmost and easternmost of the Canary Islands, is situated in the Atlantic Ocean, 115 kilometres off the coast of Africa. It has a surface area of 795 square kilometres, and an average population density of 75 inhabitants per square kilometre.
